Open Last Huston Bay in the studio
The studio frames the survey area, turns on Water depth and generates the terrain, ready to adjust and export as SVG layers.
Survey facts
| Location | Monroe County, Florida |
|---|---|
| Also known as | Huston Bay, Oyster Bay |
| Centre | 25.7510° N, 81.2395° W |
| Survey area | 5.8 km east–west × 5.6 km north–south |
| Depth data | Survey contours |
| Source | NOAA nautical charts: Florida lakes. NOAA Office of Coast Survey electronic navigational charts; public domain. Chart contours and soundings interpolated by TopoStack; not for navigation. |
Interpolated from NOAA nautical chart contours and soundings, which are generalized for navigation. Depths are below the chart sounding datum (MLLW on tidal water), not a live water level.
Sizing a piece
Framed to the whole survey area, the map keeps its landscape shape. These are the scales at three common sizes. A tighter frame zooms in and a wider one adds shoreline, and the studio recalculates both.
| Piece size | Map scale |
|---|---|
| 305 × 295 mm (12 × 11.6 in) | about 1:19,000 |
| 406 × 393 mm (16 × 15.5 in) | about 1:14,000 |
| 610 × 590 mm (24 × 23.2 in) | about 1:9,600 |
Your sheet thickness sets the number of layers. If the lake needs more sheets than you want to cut, Fit depth compresses the lake floor and keeps the shoreline. If the piece is bigger than your laser bed, split it into interlocking pieces.

More about lake maps
- Make a custom lake depth map: the whole build, from framing to glue-up.
- How lake depths work: surveyed, charted and modelled depths, and what the studio's warnings mean.
- Paint templates for spraying only the water on each layer.
- Florida: more lakes from the same survey.
Survey dates and water levels vary, and a survey can cover only part of a lake. Exports include an ATTRIBUTION.txt crediting the source; see sources and attribution. Depth data is decorative source material, not for navigation.
